HIDE AND SEEK

Script

SCENE 1

FLASHFOWARD BEGINS

INT – SMALL ROOM WITH SINGULAR CHAIR – NIGHT

 Tyler is sitting on the chair unable to escape from it. He is dirty and looks like he has been involved in a brutal struggle. He has a small puzzle box in his hands and he is frantically trying to open it, but to no avail.

TYLER:

(Crying/panicked/shaking)

A shadow of a person falls over Tyler and the camera zooms out to see a dark silhouette standing looking at Tyler.

INT – BARN – NIGHT

 Two figures are walking side by side. Their surroundings are black and the only things we can see are the two character’s bodies (from the neck down).

INT - TABLE – NIGHT

 The puzzle box is in the dead centre of the table. A hand grabs the box so violently that the whole table shakes and there is a loud bang.

INT – SMALL ROOM WITH SINGULAR CHAIR – NIGHT

 Tyler is sitting on the chair unable to escape from it. He is dirty and looks like he has been involved in a brutal struggle. He has a small puzzle box in his hands and he if frantically trying to open it, but to no avail. This time the shots are much closer and Tyler seems to be more panicked and desperate than before.

TYLER:

I can’t do it.

 Please… Stop this!

(Sobbing/shaking violently/spluttering)

 FLASHFOWARD ENDS.

SCENE 2

EXT – OUTSIDE ABANDONED BARN – DUSK

 Tyler and Charlie are outside a disused barn. They are looking for a way to break in and explore it.

CHARLIE:

This looks creepy

(Looking from the bottom to the top of the barn with a sick look on her face)

TYLER:

We should go in there

(Tyler strides towards the door while Charlie looks at Tyler with a panicked expression on her face)

CHARLIE:

We can’t!

(Charlie grabs Tyler by the arm)

TYLER:

Come on, it’s not like there’s gonna be anyone in there.

It’s abandoned.

Nobody’s been in here for years.

EXT – OUTSIDE DOOR OF BARN – DUSK

 The two are standing right next to the door of the barn. Tyler is examining the door trying to figure out a way in while Charlie is standing beside him looking scared.

CHARLIE:

How do we get in then?

Tyler:

Through the door, I’ll just kick it down

(Tyler looks around then gives the door a strong barge with his shoulder and the door effortlessly slides open, they both have a surprised look on their faces at how easily the door opens)

Charlie:

 That was easier than I thought, but you can go first.

(She grabs Tyler and puts him in front of her)

Tyler:

You really are scared aren’t you?

(He has a faint smile on his face)

Charlie:

Just go in first please.

Tyler turns and strides confidently through the door into pitch darkness. Charlie sheepishly follows and they are both engulfed in darkness. The door shuts behind them.

SCENE ENDS

                              SCENE 3

INT – CORNER OF BARN – NIGHT

 Charlie is facing away from the camera, searching behind a group of wooden boards. Her phone is in her hand and the flash is on.

CHARLIE:

Come on Tyler it’s not funny anymore.

Just come out already.

Please…

I hate hide and seek.

(She is looking around panicked and desperate)

BANG

The loud band startles Charlie as she jumps and turns round, in the process, dropping her phone.

INT – FLOOR – NIGHT

 Charlie’s phone is lying shattered on the floor.             

The phone then starts ringing and vibrating coming up with ‘UNKNOWN NUMBER’.

INT – CORNER OF THE BARN – NIGHT

 Charlie answers the phone and there is a split scene of both Charlie and the caller on their phones.

ANTAGONIST:

I have found your friend

(A creepy smile is twisted onto the caller’s face and they hang up)

Charlie is left alone looking shaken and terrified.

INT – MAIN BARN – NIGHT

 Charlie frantically runs across the barn towards the door they came in. When she arrives she tries to open it but it will not budge. She then reverts to fiercely pushing and pulling at it. When that is shown not to work she results in kicking and hitting it.

CHARLIE:

(Grunting/crying/yelling)

SCENE ENDS

SCENE 4

INT – ABANDONED BARN – NIGHT

 Charlie is alone in the decrepit barn, attempting to look for her friend Tyler.

TYLER:

(Screams)

 Charlie, terrified, looks around in shock. She spots drag marks on a nearby wall and/or on the floor. Charlie cautiously walks towards the marks to investigate.

CHARLIE:

(Gasps)

Charlie backs away, but stumbles as she does so, causing a clatter and letting out a squeak of surprise. Petrified, Charlie tries to make as little noise as possible, but cannot control her scared, heavy breathing. A shadow moves in the background.

Scratching sounds can be heard.

“Hide and seek” scratched on chosen medium shows on-screen.

Dissolve to:

INT – BLACK – NIGHT

ANTAGONIST:

Come out, come out wherever you are!

(Small giggle develops to insane laughter)

SCENE ENDS
